Our Fit Kits are tried and tested! Old Man Mountain was born in 1996 from the need to mount racks on bikes without traditional mounting points and make every bike capable of doing more. Our Fit Kits do just that while having some key benefits over eyelet mounting too.
- Fit Kits protect your bike. Not all bike eyelets are meant for racks, most are only made for fenders or have very low weight limits. Axle mounting protects your frame by moving the load from a small bolt that’s loaded in shear to a stud that extends from the axle and is captured by the rack dropouts.
- Need to carry more gear? Axle mounting increases our Divide rack’s load capacity to 70lbs/33kg.
- Want to move your rack between multiple bikes? Fit Kits make it easy to swap between bikes or front and rear mounting with just a few bolts.?
- Pucks are designed to work on any bike, and must be used if your frame has any of the following:
- Rear suspension of any kind, including Cannondale’s Kingpin system
- A high degree of flex built into the seat tube or seatpost (like Trek’s IsoSpeed or Specialized STR)
- Less than an inch of exposed, unobstructed seatpost visible
- The Seatpost Mount is an alternative to our Puck system for riders who would prefer to attach the Extenders of their racks to the seatpost, either for mechanical or aesthetic purposes.
Note: On tall frames, the Seatpost Mount may be too high for the extenders to reach without the deck of the rack getting in the way. See the examples below:

Pucks are our super-secure universal-fit upper attachment points for bikes that don’t have rack mounting eyelets. They use frame tape and heavy duty zip ties to secure to the tubes of your frame. Pucks are designed to be safe for all frame materials including carbon fiber.
Pucks are strong, lightweight and simple solutions that may be left on the bike even when the rack is not in use.
The Seatpost Mount is a collar that attaches to your seatpost and provides two eyelets for you to attach the Extenders of your rack to your bike. The Seatpost Mount is made to use with round seatposts from 27.2mm to 34.9mm in diameter. It works with all round seatposts, including carbon and dropper seatposts.

Worried about carrying additional weight on your frame?
Mounting to our Fit Kit’s instead of your bike’s eyelets transfers the load from your frame to your axle. This means that additional weight is exerting force on the bike the same way that your weight does.
The upper puck or seat post attachment are simply stopping the rack from rotating so they impose very minimal force on your bike.
Fit Kit SET817 contains all the parts needed to thru axle mount an Old Man Mountain bike rack to your bike with a 12 mm thru axle.
This kit includes:
- 12 x 154-167mm thru axle with 1.0 mm thread pitch
- A pair of mounting pucks
- Clear protective tape, for underneath the pucks and Zip Ties
- Mounting hardware
